André Souza (b. 1988) is an architect, visual artist, and self-taught photographer based in Salvador, Brazil, whose practice focuses on alternative and experimental photographic processes, blurring the boundaries between fiction and documentary. With a background in architecture and urbanism, he investigates how technology mediates contemporary imagery and human environments.

He is currently researching the concept of Entropicalism, drawing from entropy in both its thermodynamic and informational sense: the measure of disorder that grows within physical and data systems. This same logic drives the machinic devices that generate images from diffusion models, consuming energy and dissipating heat at an increasing scale, part of the same pattern of consumption that intensifies the climate crisis.

Entropicalism devours this logic and turns it into a tropical aesthetic of resistance: it inverts, toward disorder, the Anthropophagy of what comes from abroad, historically the very gesture of making Brazilian art. The term stands as a counterpoint to this new age of media hyper-saturation, returning the freedom that the system denies: the right to illegibility.

His latest project, Solaris, examines the fragmentation of bodies and identities into data, addressing themes of disconnection, systemic failure, memory, and machine surveillance.

His international achievements include being shortlisted for the Belfast Photo Festival (2026), where he previously received an Honorable Mention (2022), and being named a finalist for the 12th Arte Laguna Prize in Venice (2018).On the national stage, he was awarded second place at the 10th Salão de Artistas sem Galeria in São Paulo (2019), recognized as a finalist for the Mário Cravo Neto Award (2019), and received a special jury mention at the Bahia Visual Arts Salon (2014).
